Comics, Comics, and more Comics

Transfusion

By Steve Niles, Menton3
Format: Paperback, 104 pages
Expected Publication Date: 30 April, 2013 by IDW Publishing

Description:
In a future overrun by out-of-control machines and monsters, a handful of human survivors try to fight their way back to a normal life. But what is normal in a world where both monsters and machines need human blood? And which are the real bad guys? Find out in this horrific new story by 30 Days of Night co-creator Steve Niles and Menton3, the demented artist behind Monocyte!

Review:
Transfusion is a new twist to the vampire story. I love new twists. Machines hunt humans for their blood along with vampires, but the vampires aren't safe either. It's a competition between vampires and machines for blood. Humans are hunted to almost extinction, when the last two help the vampire Willem after his brood is harvested by the machines. They form a tenuous alliance with another brood of vampires to take out the machines.

The writing Steve Niles was dark and surreal with macabre art from Menton3 reminiscent of Gene Colan. My only regret was that the story was too short. I want more.

Judge Dredd Volume 1

By Duane Swierczynski, Nelson Daniel (Illustrations), Paul Gulacy (Illustrations)
Format: Paperback, 120 pages
Expected Publication Date: 23 April by IDW Publishing

Description:
In the 22nd century, crime runs rampant in Mega-City One, home to over 400-million citizens, robots, criminals, and lunatics. The only line of defense between anarchy and chaos are... the Judges. And Judge Dredd is the toughest of them all. All new stories plus an introduction by John Wagner!

Review:
Not much to say here other than "I Am The Law" (Great song by Anthrax paying homage to The Judge). I loved the older Judge Dredd comics and this compilation does not disappoint. We get the gratuitous violence and bloodshed, and if you're a true Dredd fan that's all you need..... well maybe a decent story, but this book has all the above. 'Nuff said.

Kiss Volume 2

by Chris Ryall, Kenneth Loh, Wagner Reis, and Tom Waltz
Format: Paperback, 104 pages
Expected Publication Date: 16 April, 2013 by IDW Publishing

Description:
In "Kiss Meets The Phantom" the members of Kiss meet their biggest threat yet in the form of robotics designer Abner Devereaux and his “daughter,” Christine Sixteen.

Meet us in the ladies room in this special homage to the beloved Kiss movie!

Also, in "Into The Void," alongside the enigmatic She, the Four-Who-Are-One fight on a new front in their eternal war of good versus evil — the very interstellar void they call home!

Review:
This is definitely for the hardcore Kiss fans. The band is portrayed as powerful spirits of good that take over "humans" to fight  against the ultimate evil with the guidance of She, who herself is am apostle of The Elder. The myth of Kiss and the possibilities of said myth are explored throughout this compilation.

The story was entertaining but it was still hard for me to picture Kiss as anything other than an awesome rock band that I love to listen to.
